Sunday… lunch with Gatting and Tarrant
This has slightly less impact now than it would have had about 3 weeks ago, but I thought that I’d post the story anyway.
I got invited a few weekends back by a firm of architects to join them at Homepark Windsor, for a charity cricket match between the Lord Taverners and Windsor cricket club. The match formed part of the Lord Taverners ongoing charity match schedule, as well as a fundraiser to mark the 75th anniversary fo the Windsor Rotary Club.
.
It was a great days entertainment which included a 3-course lunch with champagne, traditional afternoon tea, and much beer and cider swigging inbetween. Chris Tarrant of (most recently) ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionairre’ was there as auctioneer, and I got to sit next to, and enjoy lunch with none other than Mike Gatting. Apart from talking about playing golf, which Gatting seems to spend most of his time doing now, it was interesting to hear his perspective on England’s chances in the Ashes, gather inside information on the fitness of certian England players, and discuss the ECB’s policy of recruiting as many overseas players as possible to fill the national side! It seems as though we share the same, rather…. hmmmmmm….. how should I put this…….. uncomplimentary views of Kevin Pietersen.
